1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Alberta VIN Check website and its tools and content (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. What the Service is
Alberta VIN Check is an informational service. It decodes Vehicle Identification Numbers and displays recalls, complaints, and safety ratings drawn from third-party public sources, and it publishes guides about buying and registering used vehicles in Alberta. It is a research and education tool to help you prepare your own due diligence.
3. Not professional advice
The Service does not provide legal, financial, mechanical, or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for a professional inspection, a lawyer, a licensed mechanic, or an official record search. Decisions you make about buying, selling, financing, insuring, or registering a vehicle are your own. Always verify important matters — such as liens, recalls, title status, and fees — with the relevant official source before acting.
4. Third-party data — provided “as is”
Vehicle data displayed on the Service, including recalls, complaints, and safety ratings, is obtained from third-party sources such as the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). We do not create this data and do not control it. It is provided “as is” and “as available,” and we make no representation or warranty that it is complete, current, accurate, or applicable to any specific vehicle. Recalls and other records may be issued or updated at any time and may differ between jurisdictions, including between Canada and the United States.
5. Affiliate relationships
The Service contains affiliate links to a third-party vehicle-history provider. We may earn a commission on purchases made through those links, at no additional cost to you. Any purchase you make from a third-party provider is a transaction between you and that provider, governed by their terms and privacy policy. See our disclosures.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
- attempt to use VIN or other data to identify, locate, or harass any individual;
- scrape, harvest, or systematically extract data from the Service, or attempt to bypass technical limitations;
- interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- misrepresent the Service as an official or government source.
7. Intellectual property
The design, text, graphics, and other original content of the Service are owned by Alberta VIN Check or its licensors and are protected by applicable laws. You may view and share links to our content for personal, non-commercial use. You may not reproduce, republish, or commercially exploit our original content without permission. Third-party data remains the property of its respective sources.
8. Third-party links
The Service links to third-party websites, including official bodies and our vehicle-history partner. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of those sites, and a link does not imply endorsement beyond what is stated.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Alberta VIN Check and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service or any data provided through it, including any decision made in connection with buying, selling, or registering a vehicle.
11. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may modify or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta for any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service.
13. Contact
