2014 Mazda Mazda6 recalls (4)
PARKING BRAKE
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Mazda6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles. Water could possibly enter the brake caliper causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode and possibly bind.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will check the parking brake actuator shafts, replacing any that are corroded, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed August 24, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1217F.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through December 18, 2013, and model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured May 20, 2013, through December 4, 2013, and both equipped with a 2.5L engine and a regenerative engine braking system. When driving the affected vehicles in heavy rain or in deep puddles, the alternator belt may slip causing the Power Control module (PCM) to incorrectly assume failure of the charging system.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the PCM with updated software, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7314D.
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, through May 9, 2013. In the affected vehicles, it is possible to fill the fuel tank beyond its rated capacity.
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners and dealers will inspect and add an adapter to the shut off valve in the fuel tank and also inspect the charcoal canister for the presence of gasoline, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 19, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 7414D.
TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured October 25, 2012, to October 10, 2014. If the pressures of four of the tires on an affected vehicle gradually drop at the same time, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may not warn the driver of the drop in pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."
Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS software, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2014. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500.

2014 Mazda Mazda6 owner complaints (15)
- POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
At 70000 miles the transmission just got stuck into a single gear in manual. I drove it home and the check engine light came on. Before this problem the car would not go into park. Every time I put it into park I was unable to turn off the car because it thought it was still in gear. I had to fiddle the gear stick. The car also made a high pitch click (metallic) when shifting into 1st or Reverse from park. I took it to Capitol Mazada San Jose and they charged me $7000 to fix some transmission problem. I took it home and the clicking noise did not go away. I took it back to the dealer and they redid some work.
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I pulled into my parking space in front of garage door, I came to a complete stop and positively without any doubt, put my foot on the brake. As I shifted to park, all of a sudden engine loudly revved up and car suddenly and quickly accelerated through garage door. I want to make it perfectly clear, I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ACCIDENTLY ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. Mazda checked the car and said nothing was wrong with the car. This has happened to many other people with Mazda and other makes and people are told too many times that there is nothing wrong the car when it clearly is not human error.
- FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My 2014 mazda 6 EVAP system pops the p0451 when filling up gas to the first click. It goes away after a while if I take care to not fill up the tank all the way to the top. It is similar to a issue reported by recall 7414D for other 2014 mazda 6s. My car is not covered by the open recall, but it is experiencing similar issues. The p0451 goes on and off depending on how much i fill up the gastank.
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER
The car will not go into Park right away. As previously reported, I have to start the car multiple times to get it into Park--can take up to 10 plus minutes before the car will go into Parkand shut off--only then I can lock the car! Very frustrating since it's a known issue and still has not been recalled
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The park position sensor doesn't work. The car doesn't recognize that the car is in park and will not turn off. This is a known issue with the mazda 6 2014 and I do not know why there hasn't been a recall. I shouldn't have to pay to have this fixed. Started in 2019. Sometimes it takes 20 or more times to get the car to turn off by shifting in gear and back into park or starting and turning off the car. If you can't get the car turned off you cannot lock the doors and it will run the battery down. I just want this to be recalled so the dealership will repair. Thank you, this is a very frustrating situation. Literally my arm gets tired from slamming the gear shifter into park trying to get the car turned off.
- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that while parked, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. In addition, there was fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V170000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 144,000.
- VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
The car had a (SUA) Sudden Unintended Acceleration malfunction. No, the car was totaled and towed away. My safety was put at risk as I was slowly pulling into a parking spot, eased my foot onto the brake and this malfunction caused my car to involuntarily jolt into a rampant high speed. It jumped a curb and crashed into a tree. My brake was useless in stopping this runaway vehicle. The only thing that stopped it was that tree! The airbag deployed and I was badly bruised from the airbag. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians or other cars near mine. There were no warning lights or messages before, during or after the accident. It happened so quickly because the tree was only a few feet in front of my car.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When pressing the start stop button, the ignition may not turn off the accessories, even with the shifter in park position, and the vehicle engine shuts off normally the ignition stays on in accessory mode. This can cause battery drain/dead, possibly leaving me stranded in the dangerous situation. This has been unknown problem that is been refused by Mazda to create a recall. Right now it’s the car not acknowledging it’s in park because of a faulty switch, that Mazda clearly knows about and has had tons of complaints about and is well documented with NHTSA. How bad does this need to get before Mazda puts out a recall for all vehicles affected. Eventually, it will never be able to go to park and I may get in my car to drive it and it starts off in the wrong shift the wrong and I end up in a car accident. I’m sure Mazda wouldn’t want any crashes, fires, injuries or deaths on their hands do this well established faulty switch that they refused to recall.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The Shifter Park Switch failed, causing the vehicle to say on when turning the vehicle off. This causes the battery to drain and created a bad cell battery. This caused the vehicle to turn off while in motion driving multiple times putting the driver and surrounding vehicles at risk. This vehicle has been inspected by the Mazda dealership/manufacturer.
- ENGINE
The incident occurred while operating a diligently maintained 2014 Mazda 6 Touring, overseen by dealership service. While driving, the check engine light illuminated, prompting an immediate halt. Upon inspection, a concerning observation was made: the coolant level was significantly low. Despite no apparent leaks, further examination revealed a crack in the cylinder head, allowing coolant to mix with the oil. This issue, specific to Mazda's 2.5L Skyactiv engine, has been identified as a manufacturing defect, independent of overheating. Notably, this problem has been echoed by multiple users, confirming the presence of defective cylinder heads in these vehicles. This flaw necessitates an expensive repair, absolving the vehicle owner of any responsibility. Despite the widespread occurrence of this issue, Mazda has declined to issue a recall for vehicles equipped with these faulty cylinder blocks. Online forums and discussions have highlighted numerous instances of identical cracks in the same location, affirming the prevalence of this problem with Mazda's 2.5L engines. This poses a serious concern for vehicle safety and warrants attention from both Mazda and vehicle owners. Additional information regarding this issue can be found through the provided links. - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
When I put the car in park and push the push start/stop button, the car shuts off but the accessories and middle console display stay on. I have to keep shifting the car between the park position and the drive position before I put it back to the park position for the car to completely shut-off. This car is available for inspection. As far as safety is concerned, the only thing I can think of is that if the car does not completely shut off the battery would drain and not be able to start the car. I took the car to my mechanic and he said that I need to take it to the dealer. The dealer was informed and the dealer said that it was not a recall. The car was only inspected by my mechanic. There were no warning lights or messages in the car or symptoms prior to this happening.
- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, the vehicle would stall upon the depression of the accelerator pedal as a fuel odor would emit from the vehicle. The check engine light would also appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle had been taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel line O-ring seal on three separate occasions. The manufacturer nor the dealer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V393000) (Parking Brake). The contact stated that after the recall repair was completed and she arrived at her destination and attempted to shut off the vehicle, the vehicle failed to shut off. The contact disconnected the battery to shut off the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
IGNITION DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN PRESSING START/ STOP BUTTON When I park the car i.e. set the gear to Park position it doesn't turn off completely. The electricals in the car are ON and this is noticed for multiple mazda 6 and mazda cx-5 cars and despite complaining to the dealers there is no resolution from Mazda.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
The vehicle wont shut completely off when you press the start/stop button after shifting into "Park". The relay that tells the car it's in Park is faulty and the car wont shut off all the way. This will drain the battery and not allow the driver to lock the doors when they exit the vehicle. This is stranding hazard I've seen lots of YouTube videos and online forum complaints about this problem. It should be added to the recall list
