2024 Jeep Compass owner complaints (15)
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
The vehicle caught on fire while sitting in a parking lot. This vehicle had just over 13,000 miles, serviced by jeep dealer, and health reports did not surface any problems. The fire impacted other vehicles around it.
- LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while the rear lift gate door was opened as intended, the rear lift gate failed to support the rear trunk upward. No warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed at the contact's residence by an authorized Jeep mechanic; however, the failure was not identified. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
Multiple critical safety systems fail intermittently: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) disables itself randomly while driving, Lane Steering Assist becomes unavailable, frequent ‘Service 4WD’ warnings, and ‘Power Steering System Hot - Performance May Be Limited’ warning. Issues worsened after transfer case replacement on April 27, 2026. Dealership admitted ‘these lights appear all the time… there’s nothing we can do.’ This matches many other 2024/2025 Compass complaints on NHTSA. I no longer feel safe driving the vehicle. The car has also been using a lot more gas since these issues started. I’m not sure what date this started, but the first time (1/3) that I brought it to the dealership was March 20th 2026.
- LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
We purchased our 2024 jeep Compass on 12-10-2024 with about 3,000 miles on it. Our problems started on the vehicle on or about Nov. 2025. First the lane assist would go out and we were unable to turn it back on, when we tried the light in the button would blink 2 times then stay on. We reached home and shut car off and when we started it we pressed lane assist and it worked. We drove it for about 3 weeks then it happened again. My wife pulled over and tried to turn on switch again. It blinked 2 times and stood on, she shut off car and then restarted it and the switch worked and lane assist came on. We brought car to service senter and they adjusted front camera and cleared code. the lane assist goes out about once a week and we shut car off and restart for it to work. Now about a month ago all the lights on dash went on and the warning lights on both mirrors stood on. We brought car to dealer on 04-29-2026 with the lights on and left car. The dealer said they found these codes, B178F-12, U0422 and U148d. The dealer said they found no updates for this concern and cleared codes and performed proxi alignment and they road tested and no codes came up. We took car home and about 2 weeks the lane assist came back on and had to shut off car to reset it. My wife is worried to drive alone in the car.I have brought the car in at least 3 times for lane assist . Please let us know what to do...
- AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
I was involved in an auto accident on May 18, 2026. I was hit by a person driving a Honda Accord on the side of my vehicle. The impact made all of the passenger side airbags deploy, but only the driver’s side steering wheel airbag and knee airbag deployed on the driver’s side of my vehicle. Also, the seatbelt did not lock, so I was forced into the driver’s door.
- LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Adaptive Cruise Control & Phantom Braking: On multiple occasions while traveling at highway speeds (approx. 70 mph), the vehicle has engaged in aggressive "phantom braking." Despite clear road conditions and no vehicles or obstacles in the vehicle's path, the system suddenly slams on the brakes, dropping the speed to 50–55 mph. This creates an immediate risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. The instrument cluster frequently displays service warnings for the FCW, ABS, BLIS and the lane departure systems. Transmission & Powertrain Hesitation: At lower speeds, the transmission exhibits significant hesitation and "sputtering." When attempting to accelerate from a low speed or a stop, the vehicle falters and fails to engage smoothly until significant additional throttle is applied. This erratic power delivery causes the vehicle to lurch, which is particularly dangerous when merging into traffic or turning across lanes, as the vehicle does not respond predictably to driver input. Manufacturer/Dealer Response: I presented these safety concerns to a local Jeep dealership, suggesting a software glitch or sensor malfunction. Despite the vehicle being well within the factory warranty period, the dealership refused to perform diagnostic work or updates under warranty, stating I would be responsible for labor costs because the cause could be "numerous things."
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
While on the open road, no vehicles or obstructions ahead or behind, the jeep suddenly and momentarily jolted. Causing a similar reaction to what it feels like to have a minor collision, a sudden application of brakes, or perhaps a similar feeling hitting something small at highway speeds.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Driving the vehicle under normal conditions and no obstacles in the vicinity, the forward collision warning will engage and in some instances cause automatic breaking causing temporary loss of control. Sensors are clean, software appears up to date.
- POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
The collision alert warning lights have been coming on since the DAY I drove out of the dealership! They tried to dismiss it as my fault - I got too close to something (I was simply passing another car). This has been a constant issue and I’ve told the dealership every time I’ve had it serviced. I’ve had about four times that I’ve been driving at high speeds and the vehicle suddenly slams on the brakes because it’s “thinking I’m gonna hit something.” Usually it’s if I’m passing another car, but it’s also happened when there is nothing near at all. This past week was the last straw!! I was going 70 mph down the highway, had just passed a semi, and all hell broke loose. Jerked me from side to side, the brakes engaged and were jolting me, smoking, grinding, and screeching horribly because they would not give up in trying to stop me. Oil dumped all over and a burning smell, shaking and jerking, couldn’t steer, etc.. during this scary time, the service 4WD light and crash alert lights all come on. Thankfully the semi I was passing was paying attention and did not hit me. I was two hours from home so the Jeep was towed to the nearest dealership. I later learned there is a service recall that JUST came out early March 2026. It’s called 12D and is a software update related to all these codes it’s been throwing and how myJeep has been behaving for TWO years. Software needs to be updated or can have all this stuff that happened to me… because the systems don’t know what to do?? There is also a service bulletin out there that service techs SHOULD be aware of that addresses known issues with the PTU (power transfer unit). I just learned from the dealership that has my Jeep - the PTU is shot!! Imagine that! They have a PTU unit ordered but will not know what else is damaged until they tear into it. It shouldn’t take an injury or death to get notices out there when there are known issues. Thank you! This dealership where my Jeep is finally seems to know what they are doing!
- STEERING
Three times now, my steering wheel feels like it’s jerking out of my hands and difficult to turn. It has happened at low speeds while maneuvering in parking lots. I’m afraid it’ll happen at higher speeds as it gets worse.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Vehicle traveling at highway speeds 70 mph, will suddenly slam on brakes. While there is nothing in front of the vehicle and or sensor. weather type was clear not a sight of rain or snow.
- POWER TRAIN
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it remained for approximately one month; however, the dealer failed to duplicate the failure. The dealer requested that the contact drive with a mechanic to pinpoint the failure experienced with the vehicle. The mechanic requested to drive the vehicle on the parkway, but the contact declined. The contact returned the rental vehicle and drove the vehicle back to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance, and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
On February 18, 2026, while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system activated unexpectedly. There were no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles present. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop, causing the tires to squeal and creating a hazardous situation. A second incident occurred on March 14, 2026, while traveling approximately 55 mph. Under normal driving conditions with no apparent hazards, the automatic braking system again engaged suddenly and without warning, bringing the vehicle to an unsafe and unexpected deceleration. This malfunction poses a significant safety risk, as it could lead to rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control, endangering both the driver and other motorists. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership on March 16, 2026, for inspection. Initial diagnostic testing reportedly found no issues. At my request, the dealership retained the vehicle overnight for further evaluation. Upon pickup, I was informed that a software update was performed on the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) module; however, no definitive cause of the malfunction was identified. The dealership also indicated that the manufacturer is aware of similar issues but has not provided a resolution at this time. There were no warning lights, alerts, or prior indications of a malfunction before either incident occurred. The problem has not been resolved and may still be present. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,LANE DEPARTURE
Vehicle started show MULTIPLE errors on dash from blind spot not working , lane assist not working, AEB need to be checked, rear brake light not working, turn signal not work, lane assist not working and other errors. Went to dealership for these errors where they repaired a faulty sensor on the front for the lane assist and from collision. Said it was fixed...It was not. Within a hour leaving the dealership, if you pressed to turn off the power save button for when the vehicle when it comes to a stop and not idle, the errors all pop up one after another.. they did not correct any of the errors. I check back lighting and they are on and working but errors say they aren't. Front collison day is it not on but it works and alarms a sound. This is dangerous and if it will have dangerous outcome given it would not correct. Also was receiving notification.to pay into a program for future problem the moment it started again (i paid for extra coverage at signing) I don't know if it's electrical, auto start stop, the lights or something else. Car is barely 2 years old with less than 10,000 mi on it (straight for dealership). Dealership do not clear codes or correct the errors no matter me mentioning them to them.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes independently activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed that without any fault codes, no actions could be taken. The dealer deactivated the front sensor. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
