2020 Honda Odyssey owner complaints (15)

  • FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I purchased my 2020 Honda Odyssey Brand new in California. On 6/27/2026 upon starting the vehicle up in the morning there was a myriad of warning messages that came up on the cluster for the first time out of the blue. The battery was replaced a few months ago with a new one and no MIL lights were illuminated prior to this morning. Now an amber BRAKE SYSTEM tell tail symbol is illuminated on the cluster. 1: Adaptive C.C. problem 2: Auto high beam problem 3: Collision mitigation braking system problem 4: Lane Keep Assist problem 5: Road depature mitigation problem The vehicle still is able to run and drive, but none of these standard vehicle safety features are working as expected. I can't even apply cruise control now. On each key cycle the error messages come back up, and when driving they also stay in the center of the cluster and make annoying dinging sounds. I disconnected the battery ground cable from the chassis for 15 min and reconnected, but the errors come back on instantly once the van is started up. With my OBD scanner, there is a code being set U0104-00. I have not paid yet to have the van inspected formally by the dealer.

  • POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

The automatic engine shut off at stop doesn't always restart engine when moving again. This has happened several times where the engine doesn't restart after the engine shut off is engaged. This is the same issue as reported in NHTSA Action Number: EA25004

  • SUSPENSION

The rear coil spring (driver side) on my 2020 Honda Odyssey failed and broke while I was driving approximately 45 mph on a city street on XXX in [XXX]. The component that failed is the rear suspension coil spring. I do not have the broken spring in my possession, as it was replaced by the dealer. Due to the coil spring failure, the rear shock absorber on the driver side was also damaged and requires replacement. This sudden failure caused the rear of the vehicle to drop/sag on the driver side, which affected vehicle stability and handling. It put my safety and the safety of other road users at risk due to a loud noise and an abrupt change in ride height. This made the vehicle pull and feel unstable. I was able to maintain control and safely pull over, but the incident was alarming and could have led to loss of control or a crash under different conditions (e.g., higher speed or heavier traffic). A few days prior to the failure (approximately XXX), I noticed a weird/unusual sound from the rear of the vehicle. At the time, I did not associate it with a suspension issue, and there were no warning lamps, messages, or other clear symptoms. The problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle and component were inspected by a Honda dealer on XXX. The dealer confirmed that the driver-side rear coil spring had broken near the bottom and replaced it. They also noted that the rear shock absorber was damaged as a result and needs to be replaced. No other inspections (manufacturer representative, police, or insurance) have occurred at this time. This appears to be a sudden mechanical failure of the rear coil spring with no apparent external cause (e.g., no prior impact, accident, or road debris). • AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,STRUCTURE

While traveling from Florida to our home in Pennsylvania in December 2022, we were on [XXX] and after going over a pothole, the side curtain airbag, and the driver seat side airbag inadvertently deployed. It was very traumatic and we are fortunate that we were able to pull off the side of the highway without getting hit by vehicles., The repair, which totaled over$16,000 was done by GERBER COLLISION AND GLASS Easton, PA. we personally are trying to recoup our out of pocket expenses of $781.08 from HONDA. And now, a month ago, May 2026,(almost 4 years after our incident) we received a SAFETY RECALL notification from explaining the exact issue we had.NHTSA Recall number26V227. we can provide photos and documentation, invoices, out of pocket expenses, etc if necessary but we have no idea how to include them on this form. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

The auto Start/Stop feature doesn't work as needed. It will randomly lurch, turn the car off make me put it in park and then have me restart it. Sometimes the car does not start right away and I am stuck on the road until it decided when and if it will restart. Myself and my family of 5 are not stuck in the road scared of getting smashed into by other drivers unaware that we are stopped or anticipating for us not to be stopped in the middle of the road. I really dont want my family to go to the hospital or die because of this nonsense. Sometimes it doesn't fully shut off but will give error warnings like collision mitigation assistance even though there is nothing for it to mitigate. There are no cars around me and it shouldn't have done this. This has been happening for some time and only happens haphazardly meaning I can't always have the dealer identify or diagnose the issue. Then when I brought it to the dealer, they told me it was because of a power liftgate module error. Which was not true and didn't solve the issue.

  • ENGINE

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while reversing at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

  • UNKNOWN OR OTHER

We took our vehicle in to Honda to repair the mirror recall and they were unable to repair it because they did not order the parts necessary to complete the work. All this despite us making an apt well in advance so they could be prepared. Upon picking up our vehicle, we were told “not to worry about it because if the mirrors haven’t fallen off by now, they probably won’t.”

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey with approximately 73,000 miles that has experienced recurring infotainment and electrical system failures. The vehicle has undergone two prior repairs related to the Fakra connector issue, but the problem continues to occur. During the failure, the infotainment screen becomes inoperable, audio functions are affected, and the rearview backup camera becomes unavailable or unusable. The issue appears to be intermittent and is often triggered during or after rain. In addition to the infotainment failures, I have experienced key fob recognition issues requiring the key to be placed near the start button to start the vehicle. There is also static through the speakers, particularly when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle has been taken to a Honda dealership multiple times for this concern, and dealership personnel have witnessed the malfunction. Despite two previous repair attempts, the issue persists. Because the failure affects the operation of the rearview camera system, which is a critical safety feature, I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle and whether the prior repairs adequately addressed the underlying defect. I am submitting this complaint because numerous other Honda owners have reported similar recurring failures involving the infotainment system, Fakra connector repairs, backup camera operation, and related electrical concerns. I request that NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader defect affecting these vehicles and whether previous repair procedures are providing a permanent remedy. The dealer recently confirmed the fault was present and advised that additional diagnosis and consultation with Honda technical support would be required to determine the cause.

  • FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The high pressure fuel pump has failed on this vehicle. This is a known problem for vehicles between 2017 and 2020 and has not been adequately addressed by the corporation.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am filing a complaint regarding recurring electrical and infotainment failures involving my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L. The vehicle experiences loud static and speaker distortion, infotainment system instability, static noises when turning the steering wheel, and intermittent key fob recognition issues requiring the key to sometimes be held near the start button. The issue appears to happen more often during or after rain or moisture exposure. The dealership has already repaired/replaced the FAKRA connector or related infotainment connector multiple times, yet the issue continues returning. The dealership recently witnessed the malfunction themselves and acknowledged the problem is still present. I am currently waiting for further direction from Honda technical support. This appears to be a widespread issue. There are many Reddit discussions and Honda owner Facebook groups where owners describe identical symptoms and repeated failed repairs. Some owners report having the same FAKRA connector replaced as many as six times with the issue still returning afterward. The repeated failure of the same repair raises concerns that the current remedy is ineffective and that there may be a larger electrical, wiring, grounding, or moisture intrusion issue involved. Because this problem continues after multiple repair attempts, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate recurring electrical and infotainment failures in Honda Odyssey vehicles and the repeated failure of the current repair solution.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

Our vehicle has stalled at stop lights several times over the past 6 years. The auto stop/start feature seems to fail. The vehicle will shut off but when you repeat the brake it will not restart and the vehicle will die completely. You have to put it in park, wait a few seconds and try and restart. Additionally it has completely died at gas station after turning it off to refuel. When you go to start the vehicle it will be completely dead, zero power. We had to have it jump started. The battery has been replaced twice and was testing normal at the dealership. Not a battery issue. Honda acts like this is unheard of but our own research indicates it is a common well known problem with new Odyssey models.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

NHTSA Complaint Narrative – 2020 Honda Odyssey VIN: [XXX] Beginning in 2021, the vehicle experienced repeated starter and idle stop system failures, including: •delayed starting •failure to restart after idle stop •multiple warning lights •intermittent no start conditions •repeated battery failures The earliest documented complaint (Culver City Honda, March 25, 2021) states: “When using the auto start/stop feature the vehicle will have multiple warning lights. Sometimes will struggle to turn back on.” These symptoms continued for several years despite multiple dealer visits, battery replacements, electrical diagnostics, and software updates. In late 2025, the starter failed completely and required replacement at a cost of $1,890.25. The failure of the idle stop restart system poses a safety risk, as the vehicle may fail to restart in traffic after stopping at an intersection. Honda has refused to provide any written response regarding the issue. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware of the repeated failures and the potential safety implications. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • STRUCTURE

Power tailgate won't stay open. It is a known issue (Honda service bulletin 22-018) and has tried to close while people are underneath - including my small children. I have knocked my head into it numerous times since the issue started. It almost always slowly closes, and sometimes it beeps a few times then closes automatically and if I'm under it I have to forcefully hold it open. A small child would not be able to.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The multipurpose camera unit /mil radar internal electric failure (DTC's U3000-49) caused the majority of the safety features lights to come on and eventually stalled out. This part has failed twice already.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Multipurpose camera is defective- broken after only 80,000 miles. No longer functions at all. No automatic emergency braking, no forward collision warning, no lane departure warning, no lane keeping assistance, no adaptive cruise control. Dangerous now without all those computer controlled safety functions. $2400 replacement. I don’t have $2400.
