2018 Honda Odyssey owner complaints (15)
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
The forward facing camera that controls the ADAS system has failed leaving all of the ADAS system disabled while we drive. This all came after a certified windshield replacement by Safelite where they reinstalled it and calibrated it (according to them) but failed after their short warranty period. Unfortunately simply replacing the part is not an option as it requires calibration and special tools to get the vehicle to accept it, all while being charged by Honda an arm & leg to get.
- FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. An independent mechanic was contacted. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 134,150.
- ENGINE
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine started making knocking sounds. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be disassembled for further diagnostic tests. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: PE25008 (Engine). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.
- SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Forward camera issue. Brake System light turns on and cruise control, forward brake warning, and LKAS all stop working.
- SEAT BELTS
On 4/30/26 my 10 year old son was sitting in the middle row behind the driver buckled in his seatbelt. The middle row, middle seatbelt (that comes down from ceiling) got wrapped around his neck and kept tightening. He yelled for help. I was driving and saw in my rearview mirror that my son was being pulled up by his neck from the seatbelt in the ceiling. I pulled into a shopping center immediately to try to help him. I could not reach down in between the seats to unhook it because the more I tried to release him, the more it would tighten. That seatbelt requires a tool to be pressed into the lock to release it and the more I tried to get to the seatbelt to unfasten it the more it was tightening and pulling my son up (he was literally starting to hang from the ceiling). I unhooked his seatbelt so he could push himself up to try to release some of the tension around his neck. I wound up running into a Michaels store screaming that I needed scissors because my son was hanging from a seatbelt. She gave me scissors and I went back out and cut the seatbelt to release my son from the seatbelt noose around his neck. He had red marks around his neck afterwards. I still have the cut seatbelt and the other half retracted into the ceiling. Research has confirmed that there have been other reports of issues with children having to be cut out of seatbelts due to the Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) in Honda Odysseys, model years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and my model 2018. I called Honda corporate on 6/8/26 and filed a complaint. I was told I would receive an email response. I have not received an email or any response. So I called Honda corporate again on 6/25/26 and was told someone would reach out to me, but they could not tell me anything over the phone at that time. I made an appointment at my Honda dealership to have the seatbelt replaced, but have been waiting on a response from Honda corporate before doing any repairs.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
There’s more Thant went wrong but won’t let me add them. My front camera seems to be the issue but many are having the same exact issue. I just bought it not too long ago. Worked fine until this recall came out.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
All warning lights began flashing after a SRS recall fix at Honda of Joliet, Illinois. Dealer wanted to do a in depth vehicle scan for $279. I brought it to an independent care repair shop where they did the scan for $199. They found engine damage per attached report. My vehicle’s VIN was not included in the initial recall for the same problem for the same vehicle, year, and engine type. Contacted Honda Customer service a more or less ‘good luck’ response.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Warning lights began flashing on dash. Brought van to repair shop and was told and show leakage of oil into cylinders with metal shavings visible. Also heard a ticking sound while idling for a few weeks. Van only has 145,000 miles on it and was regularly serviced.
- STRUCTURE
Creaking from drivers side footwell. Pinch weld has to be oiled and greased. Vehicle has 108k miles. Front suspension entirely replaced, and the noise boiled down to the floor flexing and metal pinch welds moving and creaking. This is a common issue apparently in the Honda community.we now have to spray the pinch welds every week keep the noise down. Poor build quality.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE
Lights are going off like crazy, ran the code and says it needs a recalibration. Nothing happened to have warrant this
- STEERING,POWER TRAIN
I purchased a 2018 Honda Odyssey and reported during my 7-day inspection window that the transmission was acting sluggish. The Carvana-authorized inspection service (Pep Boys) claimed the transmission was fine. Over time it showed more and more signs of failure until it completely failed. On the directive of the seller (Carvana) and warranty administrator (SilverRock), the vehicle was taken to an authorized Pep Boys facility for a complete transmission replacement. Less than two days after picking up the vehicle, the replacement transmission suffered a complete failure on a public roadway. The vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration and forced itself into 'limp mode' on a highway, and loss of steering control, nearly causing a severe collision. The vehicle is inherently unsafe, and the authorized repair network has failed to provide a merchantable or safe repair, creating an immediate life-threatening hazard.
- LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Multipurpose camera failed. All safety features that comes with the vehicle is disabled.
- AIR BAGS
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 MPH over a pothole in the roadway, the passenger’s side air bags deployed unintendedly. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V227000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that the failure reoccurred because the vehicle was not taken in for the reprogramming stated in the recall remedy. The manufacturer informed the contact that the air bag replacement was not covered under the recall. The contact had not received the recall notification before the failure. The manufacturer opened a case. The failure mileage was 120,657.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
For a couple of weeks we have been having issues with our 2018 Honda Odyssey's back right door. When you go to open it, something happens where it makes it shut after fully opening. Our resolution for the time was to just push on the door harder and it would continue to slide open. Today, on XXX I was going to put my [XXX] son in his carseat, which is located mid van right side. He snuck infront of me and was standing in the path of the sliding door, it did what it normally does, the same door did not detect his body and began shutting on him. As it was squeezing his shoulders I was pushing back on the sliding door with all my strength, and after a few seconds it opened back up. I'm not sure whether the sensor failed, or it can't detect past a certain height, but either way it was a very scary situation. This had just happened an hour ago, so I haven't reported it to any authorities or anything. I came home and googled how to make a manufacturer report and it lead me here. If I had not been standing behind my son, I believe the door would have continued shutting more, enough to sustain serious injuries if not more. My son physically was okay, aside from a red mark on his upper arm where the door was shutting on him, he did need at least 5 minutes of consoling after, which only happens when something truly hurt him. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
- AIR BAGS
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle hit a pothole, and an unknown airbag unexpectedly deployed. The contact stated there was no injury sustained. The contact was notified that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V227000 (Air Bags). The contact stated that the dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
