2023 Honda CR-V owner complaints (15)

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES

My breaks stopped working! Car was in drive and my foot was on the break and the break did not function and drove forward. I was able to stop this before hitting anything and turned the car on, but this could have been catastrophic as I was driving to work at the hospital.

  • SERVICE BRAKES

While slowing down to enter a parking place and appling brakes car suddenly surged forward causing the car to jump a curb which could have caused an accident if there had been another car in the way

  • STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

2023 Honda CR-V, purchased new in Mar 2023 from Friendly Honda, Poughkeepsie, NY. All regular service completed at Lia Honda, Brewster, NY. On [XXX], car was driven without incident and parked inside a garage. On [XXX] upon ignition, car immediately displayed a “christmas tree” of warnings for every major system, including but not limited to: Electric Power Steering, AWD, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation, Hill Descent, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assistance. Behavior has continued every time the car is started. Car remains drivable, but all safety and driver assistance systems are disabled. In addition, on [XXX] and [XXX], after stopping at a stop sign, car had very limited power and could only accelerate to 30 mph on a flat road and 20 mph on an incline. Problem was resolved only by coming to a complete stop then accelerating again. This is a significant safety concern, as if this were to happen in stop-and-go traffic on a highway, the car would be unable to accelerate to highway speeds. On 6/20/26, I took the car to Lia Honda in Brewster, NY for diagnosis. They reported a failed Electric Power Steering Control Unit/Steering Rack (trouble code U0420-68). They explained that this single electrical component failure also caused all other components to report failures because they are connected in a ring. Estimated repair cost $4,595.98. I have filed a complaint with Honda to request out-of-warranty coverage. Car is ≈3 years old, 3 months out of warranty, and only lightly used at 17,484 miles. Note that this car falls under NHTSA recall 24V-744, which pertains to a manufacturing defect in the worm gear of the Electric Power Steering. We had the recall service completed on 12/26/24, but it seems possible that continued friction in the worm gear may result in overloading of the EPS control unit. Other Honda CR-V owners have reported similar issues online, so this does not appear to be an isolated incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • UNKNOWN OR OTHER

    Delaminating paint

  • STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE

At times, the steering wheel becomes hard to turn exactly like changing lanes when the lane assist is on. This occurs when lane assist is off!

  • SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I was driving on the freeway on Saturday 5/23/26 when a helium balloon flew into my lane. The vehicle suddenly applied maximum braking on its own without any dashboard warning, alert sound, or driver notification. It was so severe the tires were screeching. The accelerator was unresponsive for several seconds before I was able to accelerate again. This created a dangerous situation because I could have been rear-ended by another car.

  • SEAT BELTS

Seatbelt unlatched. Buckle was broken. I was told it was a “mechanical issue”

  • STEERING

I am reporting a Safety Recall Violation at Davis Honda [XXX] ). My 2023 CR-V was serviced for Recall 24-117. I was charged $175.66 for the alignment. Per Service Bulletin 24-117, this is a mandatory free part of the recall. Charging for a safety recall is a federal violation. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The vehicle’s forward collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control radar sensor is mounted directly behind a plastic front emblem that can be removed in seconds without tools. This design allows easy theft of the radar unit, which immediately disables Honda Sensing safety systems including collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane keeping assistance. Theft of this component renders federally marketed safety systems inoperable and results in dashboard warnings and loss of active safety features. Replacement and required recalibration costs are extremely high, commonly reported between $1,500 and $2,500. This issue is caused by exposed placement and lack of theft deterrence for a critical safety component, not by vehicle misuse or modification. Similar thefts are being reported by other owners, indicating a widespread design vulnerability that allows essential safety systems to be disabled through simple theft.

  • STRUCTURE,VISIBILITY/WIPER

I was driving along I-20/59 Northbound approaching Bessemer, Al near or between mile marker 102-104. Suddenly I heard a “pop” sound coming from behind me and noticed in my rear view mirror the rear windshield had a small hole in it. I had just merged into the far left passing lane when this occurred and then proceeded to merge to exit onto Exit 104 (McAshan Dr./ McCalla). As I continued to drive glass began to shatter and the hole expanded. I was initially startled and afraid because I didn’t know what was happening. Once I exited, I parked at the Flying J truck stop and exited the vehicle to further assess. I called my parents and then a Bessemer Police officer to file a report. I’m not certain if something hit my windshield, if this is the result of a manufacturing malfunction, or other unknown occurrence due to external factors.

  • ENGINE

Car lost power with catastrophic engine failure with no warning as I was turning into a busy intersection with oncoming traffic. Had it towed 3hrs to Southaven Honda.indicated it was a blown head gasket . They said it loosing power was warning sign. No warning lamps prior to the incident. The vehicle was in the dealership two weeks before and there was no indication from the dealership that I was low on coolant or it was degraded.

  • UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Hood vibrates noticeably above 55-60 mph and during car wash drying. It is too obvious that it seems that at some point hood might be dislocated.

  • STEERING

This is regarding the earlier recall where drivers can feel a clicking noise in steering wheel, I did my recall year ago and this issue is resurfacing again. I reported this to dealer this week and I was said they will replace the parts since it's under warranty. But I wanted to report this issue. Is there a permanent fix?

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Woke up at [XXX] [XXX] to neighbor banging on door and yelling your car is on fire. Vehicle is parked in front driveway, front part of the car where engine is ablazed. Neighbor said he heard "pops" like firecrackers/gunshot when he went to look out his window the fire was reflected on the fence across the car. I did google search for possible fire causes and search returned with Recall notice for fuel pump, battery and battery cladding on model. Contacted Honda but Aileen just promised to send inspector for joint inspection with USAA inspector but hasn't been responsive to call or emails for follow up. Fortuntaely, didn't park in the garage or we would have been burned down with the house also quite fortunate that car was driving on the road. Vehicle is being inspected by insurance USAA and will get report on insurance details with AMERICAN HONDA not responding to Report Case #[XXX] they keep fobbing me off by asking to call back 1-800-999-1009 x 88146 or email [email protected]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

After filling up with fuel my vehicle wreaks of gasoline fumes for hours in the passenger compartment. There are no warning lights or open recalls. Issue is common it looked up online. This started about a year after owning the vehicle.
