2017 Honda CR-V owner complaints (15)
- SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
There doesn't have to be a vehicle or obstacle in front of the vehicle and the brake system will automatically apply. This is extremely dangerous as vehicles behind the CRV have no warning the brakes are being instantly applied on the highway and/or street roads. Practically slams on the brakes.
- POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE
On May 25th, 2026 multiple dashboard warning lights flashed simultaneously while I was driving indicating an immediate engine issue, all warning alerts showed up. Next day, the engine exhibited a structural shudder/shake. The vehicle has otherwise always been perfectly maintained and operated flawlessly, thus, I called the dealership/ they gave me an appointment for the next day, after their inspection, they said that they need to replace the head gasket, timing chain set, and fuel injectors simultaneously; i learnt the imminent safety hazard i was exposed to! Operating a vehicle with an active internal fluid leak and compromised cylinder sealing creates an unpredictable driving hazard, putting occupants at risk of being stranded or rear-ended due to sudden engine failure. This proves that this is a systemic thermal defect affecting the structural integrity of the 1.5L turbo powertrain. The dealership stated the vehicle requires a top-end engine rebuild, specifically: a head gasket, spark plugs, fuel injectors, and a timing chain set. This is unacceptable given that my car is only 58.8K miles. I purchased the car brand new and always take good care, this issue is putting tens of thousands of dollars at financial risk! Now, on top of that, they want me to pay around $ 6,000 thousand dollars for a well-documented 1.5L engineering defect. This will destroy my trust in the brand and guarantee I will never buy a Honda again. This should be a safety recall, and why must I pay for their manufacture's issue? Is not fair.
- ENGINE
During a 2 hour drive, my 2017 Honda CRV EXL had all lights pop up on the dash and we experienced a sudden loss of acceleration on the highway. After finally being able to pull over, we were left stranded due to what a Honda dealership later found to be an oil dilution defect that caused a catastrophic failure in the turbocharger. Me and my girlfriend were left stranded for hours two hours away from home. This was a manufacturing defect that put me and my girlfriends lives at risk, this issue occured suddenly when we were travelling at highway speeds. The sudden flash of all dash lights during the incident were distracting as well as the situation incredibly worrying and could have caused us to crash. Even though we were able to stop safely, the situation has still created a lasting mental effect on me, as I have to carry the burden and trauma of the event with no reimbursment from Honda. There were no signs that could have told us this was going to happen as I have taken great care of the car, as it is my first car that I bought, and it is completely unaccetpable to have this happen to me when the car is only at 77,000 miles. The dealership did a diagnosis and the repair bill from the dealership to fix the turbo and intercooler is $5,000, and it is completely unacceptable that this even happened. I have taken great care of the car and a catastrophic failure of the engine system left us stranded for hours where we could not get any help. This has taken a huge toll on my mental state, and the car is left sitting at the dealership due to the completely unreasonable price tag of repair for an issue that is a known manufacturing issue, we have not gotten any reimbursment for the repair. It is unreasoble and unaccetpable to put the cost of repair on the driver who had no way to avoid this life-threatening manufacturing defect.
- STRUCTURE
Roseville Toyota sold me a car with a faulty hood latch. It’s a safety issue and they refuse to acknowledge that they failed pre-inspections and refuse to fix it. I have to take it to an expert in order to close the hood
- STEERING
XXX. Purchased used Honda vehicle from Skyway Honda dealership in [XXX] with known steering issue - although unknown to me until reching highway speeds after driving off lot. 2017 Honda CR-V with Electronic Power Steering gear issue. Vehicle steering causes random movement and potential for over-corretion at highway speeds. NO prior indication of issue at time of purchase as vehicle had been "prepped for sale" at same-brand dealship with other maintenance services performed by service department. There are numerous complaints of same issue on the internet and there is no way dealer was unaware of the issue at time of sale nor was issue disclosed. Issue confirmed by independent service shop, repair cost estimate $5000. Issue related to NHTSA Recall 18V-663. NOT finding vehicle subject to recall, although same issue occurs on other vehicles of this make, model amd year. Have submitted request with Honda; pending: American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Case #: XXX INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
- ENGINE
The vehicle has accumulated 121,000 miles and has undergone all necessary services at the Honda dealership where it was originally purchased. The vehicle was driven under normal operating conditions by original owner. Now has a broken head gasket that a local Honda dealer wanted nearly 7k for the repairs. How does this happen and why? Since other owners are having the same issue, this should have been dealt with previously. Now I am without my car for the better part of a week. Please fix this!
- POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
All brake systems warning lamps illuminated while driving on the highway, the vehicle was pulled off the road and shut off, brakes were visually inspected and all fluid levels were examined and everything was intact. Vehicle was driven again after a breif time and everything was fine. A few weeks later all warning lamps were displayed, the vehicle was brought to a Honda dealership the following morning and a cracked fuel pump was diagnosed and the technician believed that there was no coolant in the vehicle and that was filled. The technicians suggested a scope of the engine to rule out a leaking head gasket but I could not afford it and monitored my coolant levels, had a pressure test done at a trusted mechanic and everything was fine for approx 3 months. Absolutely no coolant was observed on my driveway, the coolant level remained optimal on visual inspection. The vehicle started to drive roughly and I suspected new spark plugs were needed, those were installed at the dealership. The issue was not resolved and I returned w/in 1 month and was told that 3/4 cylinders were blown in addition to the head gasket. The vehicle has 106k miles and has received all maintenance as described. The cost to repair is over $8,000. I believe this is a failure on Honda as this is a very well documented issue with this specific vehicle.
- FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
My car stalls out when accelerating. The same issue explained by NHTSA recall 23V-858 but my vin is not included in the recall and it's a 2017 Honda CRV. I have almost been re ended when it stalls in traffic.
- AIR BAGS
am filing a complaint regarding my Honda vehicle being inoperable for over 2 months due to an airbag replacement part being on national backorder after the airbag was stolen. This is a critical safety component and I have been unable to safely use my vehicle during this time. Honda has acknowledged the part is unavailable and my case was marked “urgent,” however I have received very limited communication and no meaningful resolution timeline. I have also been told rental assistance is not being covered, leaving me without reliable transportation for months because a required safety part cannot be obtained. I am concerned about the length of time these safety-related components are unavailable and the impact this has on consumers who cannot safely operate their vehicles. I am requesting review of this issue and Honda’s handling of extended airbag-related part backorders
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
All warning lamps have been coming on at random times. The dealerships have always said there is no problem. Now, outside of warranty, I am reading that it's possible that the problem is that all of the fuel injectors need to be replaced. Online notes that this is a widespread issue with this particular vehicle. I was informed that I can disconnect the battery and it resets the system and warning lamps - sometimes for hours, sometimes for days/weeks.
- SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE
The contact owns a 2017 HONDA CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, numerous warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, including the ABS and check engine lights. Concurrently, the vehicle lost engine motive power and was unable to accelerate. The vehicle was driven to a dealer where it was diagnosed to have a blown head gasket and issue with the fuel injector. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 225,000.
- SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Cylinder 2 and 4 misfire, that will cause all the sensor lights to come on and the vehicle will stall out. Doesn't matter if driving 15 mph or 55 mph, it will just stall.
- ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
We bought a 2017 crv rand new. with 1.5 engine and turbo, ALL WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON .Obd keeps on giving ing medifferent codes and multiple..I have watch car repairs in YOUTUBE and there's a lot of the same vehicle as mine with the same problem.
- FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
The contact owns a 2017 HONDA CR-V. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH, her Vehicle suddenly braked on it's own prompting it come to a full stop causing the contact to get rear ended. No air bags deployed. The vehicle was not towed and was able to drive after. The contact stated she heard a beeping sound and saw a waring sign as the vehicle slowed down suddenly. No police report was filed. No injuries. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 164,000.
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
2017 Honda CRV Touring with VIN [XXX] . My son and daughter drove the car and all of a sudden all the lights started going off( it looks like Christmas lights). We got it scanned multiple times from different places where they have the scanner. It was showing P0304 Misfire #4 cylinder and U0401-68 ecm failure. We took it to the dealer and they found out the same code fuel injector needs to be replaced. I am single mom and didn't have the money to get it fix. Our car only had less than 21k. I stayed up to do more research online. Found out more about this common issues with same model. I contacted another dealer, explained my situation and he advised me to call honda corp to be added to the recall and mention goodwill. I immediately called the corporate but had to wait for their case mgr to get back with us. I asked my daughter to call the dealer where we got our car diagnosed, to ask svc advisor if it is safe to use the car and we were advised that it's ok to use. However my daughter was driving the car and all of a sudden it wasn't accelerating and only going around 5 miles per hour. She had to go back home and missed her classes. She was scared and I could just imagine how scary that was.How about if this happened when she was in the freeway? This could have caused a major accident. I don't understand why Honda only issued the recall to some cars with same model as ours if they already have lots of customers having same issue. I even read this issue was featured on ABC news. Honda did offer to help with lowering the fuel injector but I still have to pay $899.19 and around $204 for diagnosis. The svc advisor said they've been having a lot of same model cars coming in for fuel injector problems. I am reaching out hoping you can help direct us in getting the full reimbursement and hoping our car can be added to the recall so we can get reimburse.Honda should be fully liable for this due to known issue. Date below was one incident. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
