2017 Ford Mustang owner complaints (15)
- SEAT BELTS
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the driver's and passenger's side seat belts were seizing. The occupants were concerned about being stuck inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The mechanic removed the inside panels of the seat belts and greased and cleaned the parts. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V614000 (Seat Belts). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where an inspection was performed, and it was confirmed that the seat belts were working as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
- STRUCTURE
This is a Mustang convertible. The doors would be open all of the sudden when the car is running especially on highway. It's not wide open but ajar. The wind would blow into the car, noisy and scary. Both doors have this issue, mainly on driver side. The passenger side also happened once on highway when my daughter was there. This typically happen in a long drive like couple of hours. The first time this happened is couple of years ago. This issue happened more and more often in the past year. I found online that this issue was reported and some of the cars were recalled. However, my car is not one of those that were recalled. I believe this is a big deal and should be taken care of seriously. Thank you.
- STRUCTURE
While driving my recently purchased 2017 Ford Mustang Convertible from Florida to North Carolina, the passenger-side door repeatedly unlocked and partially opened while the vehicle was traveling at interstate speeds. This occurred approximately 12 times during the trip. The door appeared to latch normally when closed, but would unexpectedly unlock and pop open while the vehicle was in motion. This created a significant safety concern due to the risk of occupant injury, driver distraction, and potential loss of vehicle control. I am aware that Ford has issued recalls related to door latch failures on certain Mustang models; however, my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall population. Based on my research, numerous owners of Ford Mustang Convertibles from model years around 2017 have reported experiencing similar door latch and door-opening issues. Given the frequency of the occurrences and the obvious safety implications of a vehicle door opening while traveling at highway speeds, I believe this issue warrants further investigation.
- SEAT BELTS
Recall performed and tech stated parts were bad and needed desperately and parts were ordered. I have a repair invoice to prove it in my vehicle history. I rescheduled appointment for recall completion and service manager was very rude and stated recall doesn’t even have parts out until 11/2026. When I questioned if recall was performed improperly per TSB she placed me on hold for a while and she said parts department doesn’t have parts for me /never ordered anything and I can’t get the recall done.
- SEAT BELTS,BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the seat belts failed to lock or latch securely into the buckles. Additionally, the contact stated that the rearview camera failed to operate as intended. The contact received a safety recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was notified of the failures but declined to assist with the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
- ENGINE
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Mustang. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer for a routine timing cover replacement. The contact believed the engine was damaged while being serviced. Upon retrieval, the check engine light was illuminated. There was an abnormal ticking noise detected. The vehicle had misfired. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
- ENGINE
Head gasket failure, specifically corrosion of the engine block. One day the car just did not start at all, with no clear indication of head gasket failure until compression test was ran. Symptoms include coolant levels getting lower each week, with constant refills needed. Random misfires. Smoke randomly emitting from the exhaust when idle. Has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance.
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Driver and passenger door will randomly unlatch while driving. The door will become ajar while on the highway.
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION
Recall 22V0820000, Ford recall 22S06 was completed in 2023. That recall failed. The dealership, and Ford corporate have refused to fix this under the recall which is required.
- SEAT BELTS
This Recall has been out for more than 6 months without remedy. Is there anyway to get this resolved soon? Why hasn't there been any solution placed within a timely matter? I want to make sure that I am safely secured in my seat. I want to be able to trust that the seatbelt used will save my life if need be.
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER
"I am reporting High Desert Ford (formerly Sunland Ford) for refusing to perform the remedy for Safety Recall 25S89 (NHTSA 25V572) on my 2017 Ford Mustang. Despite my vehicle exhibiting the exact 'distorted/blank image' defect described in the recall, the dealership refused the repair based on two non-compliant grounds: 1. Digital vs. Physical Defect: The dealer stated that because no 'Diagnostic Trouble Codes' (DTCs) were present, they would not replace the camera. This ignores the fact that NHTSA 25V572 identifies the root cause as internal PCB corrosion—a physical hardware failure that Ford acknowledges causes visual distortion regardless of digital codes. 2. Illegal Tie-In (Magnuson-Moss Violation): The dealership is conditioning my federal safety remedy on the removal of an aftermarket dash display. They claim diagnosis is 'impossible' with it installed, yet simultaneously claimed the vehicle 'passed' inspection. This constitutes an illegal tie-in provision under 15 U.S.C. § 2302(c), as they have failed to provide any technical proof that the display caused the internal camera corrosion identified by Ford. I have video evidence of the safety failure which the dealership refused to review. By denying this repair, High Desert Ford is knowingly leaving a vehicle on the road with a defect that increases the risk of a crash."

Recall remedy unavailable for 8+ months causing financial loss
- BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera displayed a distorted image. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the contact was informed that the wiring harness also needed to be replaced, but was not covered under the recall. The contact stated that after the recall repair was performed, the rear-view camera became inoperable, and the message "Camera Not Available" was displayed while reversing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
- BACK OVER PREVENTION
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that there were intermittent failures with the rear-view camera image. The contact had opened the trunk and noticed that the mesh covering the electrical wires was deteriorating. There was tape holding the mesh to the wires. The tape was rewrapped, and the camera became functional. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V572000 (Back Over Prevention). The contact stated that approximately one month after receiving the recall notification, the rear-view camera failed again. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who advised the contact that the camera was inspected, and no failure was found. The vehicle was retrieved, but the camera image was distorted, and eventually, there was no image displayed. There was a message that the camera needed to be serviced. The vehicle was returned to the same dealer, who determined that the failure was not due to the camera and that additional diagnostic tests were needed. The contact was informed that the recall repair had been completed and that the repair would be at the owner's expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to another dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
